Signed, dated and described on the back: TOMASZ JAŚKIEWICZ / ŁÓDŹ / [address] / "III RECORD FROM THE AREA OF SILENCE" 85R. / TECH. - OLEJ and at the bottom the artist's signature.
Tomasz Jaskiewicz graduated from the Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz. In 1957, he received his diploma in the studio of Lech Kunka. He became a lecturer at his alma mater to eventually receive the title of professor. He also served as vice-rector there.
Tomasz Jaskiewicz's work underwent transformations in subsequent periods. Initially, the artist painted subdued, often dark compositions with a narrow color range with structural textures. In the mid-1960s, he chose spatial relief as a form of artistic expression, and in the 1970s he focused on drawing. However, it was the 1980s that became a unique moment for Tomasz Jaskiewicz - a moment of silence. During this period, the artist's painting focused on smooth geometric compositions made in traditional techniques framed in delicate, subdued colors of blue, white, gray, among others. At the time, the artist did not strive for self-expression and deliberately deprived his works of additional metaphorical-symbolic layers. "Record from the Area of Silence III" is a contemplative, unobtrusive painting, offering the possibility of meditation.
Tomasz Jaskiewicz's paintings are in the collections of the Art Museum in Lodz, the National Museum in Szczecin, the Studio Gallery in Warsaw, as well as form private collections in the country and England, Denmark, Germany.
