One of the evocative answers to the question posed in the title of the exhibition "What after Cybis?" organized by the National Gallery "Zachęta" in 2018, should be to mention the name of Tadeusz Dominik. An artist hailing from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts from the studio of Professor Jan Cybis - a colorist, and an educator exceptionally open to the artistic and formal paths chosen by his students (in the same studio studied, for example, Jerzy "Jurry" Zieliński or Jan Dobkowski - a duo working in the Neo-Neo-Neo group).
Tadeusz Dominik's geometric, unified landscapes can be seen as a natural corollary to the aesthetics of the Capists, who, using multiple layers of paint to delude the eye, like Tadeusz Dominik, distorted or processed the image to depict a real landscape. Tadeusz Dominik's canvases are characterized by their expressive nature, both in the form of swirling shapes and dramatic, rapid brushstrokes, giving the impression of a pushy need to record a moment before it is a past, hazy episode.
The offered canvas fits perfectly into the theme of Tadeusz Dominik's works, which are: landscape, simplified images of fields, stretches of flowered meadows unified to irregular, spherical patches of color, views of the garden. The presented rainy landscape, probably dates from the 1980s.
