- Decorative Arts, White Gallery, Lublin, 2022.
Modernist inspirations in the work of Marcin Chomicki,
an artist who practices painting, sculpture,
installation and 3D art, have been encapsulated in elements - modules
giving the possibility to juxtapose them with each other. Lumps of sculptures
allow them to be expanded with further parts, thanks to which the
the creator builds architectural objects out of them at the same time
emphasizing their functionality and that of the architecture itself.
Exposing the element of transformation directs associations
towards urbanistic issues. Marcin Chomicki
seeks inspiration not only in utilitarian solids or urban tissue
urban fabric, but also among everyday objects
use, especially those from the communist era.
Presented images of equal size, they replicate the
the shape of the often monochromatic tiles commonly used
in bathrooms, kitchens, public places
public places precisely from the 1970s and 1980s. Just as
the thoroughly utilitarian tiles or the author's sculptures, Chomicki
juxtaposes his paintings into collections thus arranging the
space at the same time giving the canvases color in a geometrized form.
form. Color also accompanies the artist in actions created
in public space. Marcin Chomicki, in
cooperation with Justyna Wencel, is the author of a series of interventions
consisting of exposing anonymous, urban
areas. These include, for example, the project 0.5 km of color, which
was implemented on the footbridge connecting the CCA Ujazdowski Castle
Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw with Jazdów, or the Labyrinth realized
in the southern part of Wroclaw.
